The Acer Ferrari Laptop Revealed
The high-high end of the Acer line is the Acer Ferrari laptop, which is designed to be ultra-light and high performance. They've even licensed the prancing stallion logo from the Italian car marker to grace the top of the shell. The Acer Ferrari laptop contains the highest speed low wattage AMD dual core CPU that they can get, has 2 GB of RAM standard (expandable to four), and has eschewed a lot of the legacy connection ports for only the ones that high end customers are likely to want. A lot of the engineering expertise at Acer went into making the Ferrari's case thin and lightweight – it uses a high tensile strength carbon fiber shell with appealing design work to make the laptop ooze sex appeal. Performance is great, and pricing is actually pretty affordable given all the extras bundled into the case and box. The only knock on the Ferrari we've found is that battery life seems to have been one of the items compromised; the system can (barely) go through a movie length DVD on one charge. Overall, Acer is an industry leader in laptop production, and a lot of Apple's laptops are made in Acer plants in Taiwan to spec. Acer's own line of laptops aren't as high end as the Apple MacBooks and MacBook Pros, but they offer at varying price points, an excellent mix of power and performance and portability in affordable packages for their market segments.
