Sony Vaio FZ series,
the definitive laptop guide

Starting with the Sony Vaio FZ series, their notebooks get a bit more conventional; Sony's major mark on the business is creating laptops that are truly art objects – only Apple does a better job – and while the FZ series have that distinctive Sony style, at this size and form factor, there are simply a lot of options with comparable performance for a lower price.

Even so, there are some selling points – the major one is the gorgeous 15.4" screen. The NR comes with 'draft-N' ultra fast wireless networking, and there's an "eco friendly" special edition, plus an (expensive) Blu-Ray DVD burner option.

The FZ series is Sony's attempt to make a "commodity" laptop, and it doesn't quite succeed on that level.

Sony Vaio FZ series comes with a durable magnesium casing, Intel® Core™ 2 Duo processor, 802.11n wireless LAN technology and built-in camera.

The Vaio® FZ notebook has the performance and mobility features you need to stay connected and productive whether in the office or offsite with clients.

The Sony Vaio FZ series is designed to maximize LCD space with clever engineering techniques implemented throughout the chassis, including a reconfigured battery and motherboard design. This places a 15.4" widescreen display in a much smaller laptop.

You'll also find an Intel® Core™ 2 Duo processor, an 800 MHz Front Side Bus, large hard drive and 2GB of memory.

This series has built-in 802.11n wireless LAN technology, offering a massive boost in speed and considerably more range than 802.11a/g.

The laptops is backward compatible with existing 802.11g and 802.11b networks, so there is no need for any additional hardware or cables.

In addition to wireless connectivity, the FZ also features a built-in camera and microphone for video conferencing.

The Sony Vaio FZ Series Premium Features

This version comes with a Blu-ray Disc™ for enhanced movie viewing and extra data storage. You'll also find XBRITE-HiColorTM LCD technology in the display.

With the Blu-ray Disc™ optical drive you can edit, burn and store up to 50GB of data or video.

To power the drive and display there is an advanced graphics card (select models) and an HDMI™ output so you can see it all in full 1080HD by connecting it to your compatible HDTV.
