A Practical Sony VAIO NR series
laptop consumer's guide.

On this page, we offer you everything you'll want to know before buying Sony VAIO NR series of Laptops. Click here for a review and useful details on the Sony NR.

Sony is one of the top brands when it comes to electronics and computers. There are plenty of models to choose from and that can make choosing the one that is right for you all the more difficult.

While Sony is know for quality, that quality comes at a price that for many may be un-affordable. There is good news regarding this. Sony has put out the new Sony VAIO NR series. The Sony NR offers a truly affordable laptop while still offering the quality that comes with the Sony name.

There are some pros and cons when it comes to the Sony VAIO NR series laptop. The first on the list is that it is for a Sony, and for most laptops, affordable. It also has a 15.4" monitor and is the only size the monitor comes in.

This may or may not be a downside for you. It also only comes in three colors, brown, white and silver with a textured finish. Again these features are not real pro's or con's to the laptops functionality itself. It all depends on what you are looking for.

There are not a huge number of options to choose from when it comes to processors. This of course is to keep the price affordable. There is a 1.46 and a 1.66 processor option available. The 1.46 GHz processor is a Dual Core while the 1.66 GHz is an Intel Core 2 Duo.

The case itself is reinforced in the right places to provide protection. Its 1.5" at its thickest point and 6.2lbs this makes it portable even if slightly larger than most of the same 15.4" models.

It does have one downside when it comes to graphics and that is there is no dedicated graphics for this model. This means that the graphics card has to use the system RAM, which means the computer could actually run slower than it should technically because of the system usage.

This can be resolved usually by upgrading the RAM on the system to allow for the graphics card use. Luckily, this model the Sony VAIO NR series is upgradeable to 4gbs of RAM giving you plenty of leeway.

Sony VAIO NR series screen brightness is decent and there are eight levels for backlight display. The horizontal viewing is excellent; this makes it easier to have multiple viewers however, the vertical viewing was not so great.

The screen tends to wash out with even a slight tilt. The keyboard is flatter than most when it comes to the keys but easy to use and the touch pad responds well with good feedback.

There is one big downside to the Sony NR. This is the battery wiggle. Even in the locked position, the battery moves excessively and significantly more than it should.

It also seems the locked switch does not stay in the locked position making it easy to lose the battery if the laptop is moved the wrong way when it is being lifted; battery life is also shorter than advertised for the battery unless you are simply idling the Sony VAIO NR series Laptop.
